Dialysis treatment is available across the world, and it only requires some planning to ensure you’re covered when you travel.
Early planning means you are more likely to secure a treatment spot at a dialysis clinic near your destination, at the times you prefer. Talk to your home care team who will be able to advise you on common questions around travel.
Look into your insurance situation to determine what coverage you have. All clinics on the d.HOLIDAY platform display what payment options (including European Healthcare Insurance Card, EHIC) are available at your chosen clinic.
Patient documentation, based on local requirements, will be requested by the clinic you are travelling to. This will be managed by your home clinic. It may include general information about your health and dialysis requirements, laboratory results and a list of your medications.
Always have a copy of your medical records with you while traveling. Make sure these include important phone numbers for your regular doctor, dialysis clinic etc.
Ensure you bring enough medication to last for the duration of your trip, and include a contingency amount to cover you in the event of an emergency s (such as lost luggage or a spill). Make sure anyone who is traveling with you knows where you keep your medications and what your needs are.
