From local knowledge to trusted care, meet Pavlos and the team helping patients discover Greece.
We spoke with Pavlos, our d.HOLIDAY Coordinator for Greece, about what makes Greece such a special destination, how local teams support holiday patients, and why more people are choosing to travel with confidence through d.HOLIDAY.
Pavlos, can you give us a quick introduction to Greece as a holiday destination for dialysis patients?
Greece is one of those places everyone should experience at least once. Whether you're looking for vibrant cities, beautiful coastlines, historic sites, mountain scenery or incredible food, you'll find it here.
One of the things I love most about Greece is its diversity. In a single trip, you can explore ancient landmarks in Athens, relax by the sea in Chalkida, visit traditional villages or discover breathtaking natural landscapes. Every region has its own unique character and charm.
Greece is also a wonderful year-round destination. While summer is popular, spring and autumn are often ideal for dialysis patients thanks to the pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds and excellent conditions for sightseeing and relaxation.
Wherever you choose to travel, you'll be welcomed by the warmth and hospitality that Greek people are known for.

How does Diaverum Greece ensure a comfortable dialysis experience for patients visiting the country?
At Diaverum Greece, we are committed to delivering the same high standard of care that patients receive throughout the Diaverum network worldwide.
Our experienced clinical teams combine professional expertise with our culture of True Care, ensuring every patient feels safe, supported and welcome throughout their stay. We understand that travelling with dialysis requires trust and careful planning, which is why we work closely with patients and their home clinics to coordinate treatment arrangements before they arrive.
Our goal is simple: to help patients enjoy their holiday with confidence, knowing their treatment needs are being looked after by experienced professionals.
What makes the d.HOLIDAY experience in Greece unique?
What makes Greece special is the combination of expert clinical care and personalised support.
Through d.HOLIDAY, patients don't just book dialysis treatments. They receive support throughout the entire journey. From helping with documentation and treatment planning to answering practical questions about travelling, accommodation or local recommendations, our team is here every step of the way.
We work closely with patients before, during and after their trip to make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible. By taking care of the practical details, we help patients focus on what really matters: enjoying their holiday.
As a local, could you share some insider recommendations for places to visit and explore?
Absolutely! Athens is an incredible destination and often the perfect starting point for any Greek adventure. The Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum are must-see experiences, while neighbourhoods like Plaka and Monastiraki offer beautiful streets, local cafés and a vibrant atmosphere. Visitors can also enjoy the nearby Athens Riviera, which combines stunning coastal views with excellent restaurants and beaches.
For travellers looking for a more relaxed seaside experience, I always recommend Chalkida. Located just over an hour from Athens on the island of Evia, Chalkida offers a wonderful combination of sea views, local culture and authentic Greek hospitality. It's a fantastic destination for those who want to slow down, unwind and experience everyday Greek life.
If you're interested in history and nature, the surrounding regions offer plenty of opportunities for day trips, including mountain landscapes, traditional villages, the famous Monastery of Saint John the Russia and some of Greece's most important archaeological sites. Wherever you choose to go, Greece offers something for everyone.

What do you enjoy most about supporting holiday dialysis patients?
As a renal nurse, I have always been passionate about helping people maintain their quality of life.
I still remember my first experience in a dialysis clinic during my training. One question immediately came to mind: How can these patients continue to travel and experience the world?
That question stayed with me throughout my career. When I had the opportunity to become a Holiday Dialysis Coordinator, I didn't hesitate.
Today, the most rewarding part of my role is helping patients realise that dialysis doesn't have to stop them from travelling. Whether they're planning a holiday, visiting family, attending an event or simply exploring somewhere new, it's incredibly rewarding to help make those journeys possible.
What would you say to someone who thinks dialysis means they can no longer travel?
I would tell them that travel is absolutely possible.
Every year, we welcome patients from around the world who travel for holidays, family visits, special occasions and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. With the right planning and support, dialysis can become part of the journey rather than a barrier to it.
That is exactly why d.HOLIDAY exists: to help patients travel safely, confidently and with peace of mind.

Greek cuisine is famous around the world. What should visitors try?
Greek cuisine is one of the highlights of any visit. Traditional dishes such as grilled meat souvlaki, roasted lamb and fresh Mediterranean specialities are enjoyed across the country and offer a wonderful introduction to Greek cooking.
For those with dietary restrictions related to dialysis, we always recommend following the guidance provided by their healthcare team and discussing any specific requirements before travelling.
The good news is that Greek culture is centred around sharing meals, enjoying fresh ingredients and spending time together, creating memorable experiences that go far beyond the food itself.
